Do you feel stiff, sore, achy, tired and stressed?  You are not alone.  Giving the technological age we are living in with all the electronic distractions like television, video games, computers, and the internet, more and more people are overweight and out of shape than at any other time in our short history.  Now more than ever, regular exercise should be an important component in our everyday lives, yet our children no longer participate in regular physical education in schools and spend far less time outside playing and being children and the effects are underscored throughout our society today.  Data from the Center for Disease Control indicate that 67% of Americans over twenty years of age are either overweight or obese.  Getting regular exercise for at least 30 minutes 3 times per week will reverse this trend.

An Elliptical machine workout may just be the solution to your exercise woes.  There are numerous benefits to using an elliptical machine.   Far different than traditional free weight workouts, elliptical machines are far easier on the body than other forms of exercise.  By providing a low-impact workout elliptical machines are safe, easy, and as natural to do as walking.  You do not have to be at any particular skill or fitness level to use the machine, and you can gradually increase the difficulty of your workout your fitness level increases.

Elliptical machines provide one of the highest return values in caloric burn while still maintaining the natural motion of the body. It is similar to walking or running, but without the high impact.  Depending on the type of machine you use, you can vary the exertion levels in intervals providing a great interval training workout.  The more fit you become the higher you can set the resistance, pace, and other factors on the machine.

Elliptical machine workouts are great for all ages, fitness levels, and body types.  We all naturally move the same way, through forward upright motion, you can get a great workout no matter how out of shape you may be.  Everyone has to start somewhere and using an elliptical machine can provide you with  a consistent, gradually increasing work out, but as with any exercise it is important not to overdue yourself.

Over exertion is the leading cause of injury and the primary reason people quickly discontinue any exercise regimen.   It’s important for you to be consistent and focus on increasing your fitness level long term.   Too often, we begin exercising with unrealistic expectations.  By understanding your current level of activity and realistically setting long term goals for yourself, you will develop good exercise habits and find that ultimately you feel better both physically and mentally.

Another great benefit to an elliptical machine workout is the mental reduction is stress.  It’s a proven fact that regular exercise decreases stress. Getting regular exercise can almost feel like and addiction once you have established an effective and consistent exercise program. If you answered yes to those questions we asked at the beginning of this article, consider investing in an elliptical machine and start feeling and looking younger today.   If you can’t afford a machine, check out a gym membership or perhaps you may have access to exercise equipment in an apartment complex that maintains fitness rooms for their residents.
